On Saturday February 11, music lovers gathered at the EMJC to support Camp Brooklyn Fund and take in some tunes. The Chris Bergson Band, a New York-based jazz band, gave a rousing performance.

Lois Jackson, who hosted the concert in conjunction with the EMJC, said "I support Camp Brooklyn Fund because all children should have the chance to go to camp. It allows them to be part of a community."

"I never got the chance to go to camp," Jackson continued. "I think that I missed something by not going, because my friends who went to camp made lifelong friends there. Every child should get to experience sleep-away camp."

Another Child Goes to Camp Thanks to Community News Group

Earlier this month, local media company Community News Group donated $750 from the proceeds of its Brooklyn Women of Distinction awards gala in Dyker Heights earlier this month. Community News Group is New York’s largest collection of family-owned newspapers, websites, and magazines.

The donation will allow a child who may never have traveled out of the city to sleep under the stars, make new friends, and participate in fun and educational activities while breathing in fresh country air and promoting self-esteem, said CNG’s president and publisher Jennifer Goodstein.

“Camp Brooklyn offers a unique opportunity for a child to spend time at camp and to create new adventures, and I cannot think of a better way to support the Brooklyn of tomorrow than to help a child today,” she added.
“We at Community News Group believe we must always keep an eye on the future                                           and keep positive energy and hope growing.”
